Andorra Car Tax Savings Calculator 2026
Transparent calculator
Calculate in 30 seconds how much you save by registering your car in Andorra rather than in France or Spain.
Four parameters are enough to estimate the difference between a standard EU registration and an Andorran one: the vehicle’s value, its fuel type, its CO2 emissions and your legal status. The calculation applies the Andorran IGI (4.5%), the French TVA (20%) and the malus ecologique (up to EUR 60,000), and the Spanish IVA (21%) and IEDMT registration tax (up to 14.75% by emissions band) — all as in force in 2026.

How to Read the Figures
The calculation combines four main components:
- The VAT / IGI differential: 20% in France or 21% in Spain versus 4.5% in Andorra — a gap of 15.5 to 16.5 percentage points of the vehicle’s pre-tax value. On a vehicle worth EUR 120,000, that is close to EUR 20,000 in pure differential against France, and nearly EUR 20,000 against Spain.
- The avoided registration tax: this is often the single largest item. In France, the malus ecologique can reach EUR 60,000 on a high-emission vehicle. In Spain, the IEDMT reaches 14.75% of the vehicle’s value in the highest emissions band — tens of thousands of euros on a premium vehicle.
- Andorran registration service costs: EUR 1,500 to EUR 2,800 on average, covering registration, plates and the initial roadworthiness test. The calculator uses an average of EUR 2,000.
- Company bonus: for registration in the name of an Andorran company with genuine activity, part of the IGI may be recovered under the applicable regime, reducing the net cost. The calculator applies a flat 20% reduction of the IGI for this scenario.
The calculator does not cover additional costs (enclosed transport for supercars, individual type approval if applicable, re-registration costs if the vehicle returns to France or Spain at a later date). Example Calculations by Vehicle Price Band
Entry-level premium (EUR 35,000 to EUR 60,000)
At EUR 45,000 before tax with 145 g/km CO2 (petrol):
| Item | France | Spain | Andorra |
|---|---|---|---|
| VAT / IGI | EUR 9,000 (20%) | EUR 9,450 (21%) | EUR 2,025 (4.5%) |
| Registration tax | EUR 3,000 (malus, ~195 g WLTP equiv.) | EUR 1,350 (IEDMT ~3%) | None |
| Specialist fee | – | – | EUR 2,000 |
| Total taxes + fees | EUR 12,000 | EUR 10,800 | EUR 4,025 |
| Estimated net saving | EUR 7,975 vs France / EUR 6,775 vs Spain |
At this price band, the operation starts to make clear sense, particularly if the vehicle carries even a moderate malus or IEDMT.
Mid-range premium (EUR 80,000 to EUR 120,000)
At EUR 100,000 before tax with 220 g/km CO2 (petrol SUV):
| Item | France | Spain | Andorra |
|---|---|---|---|
| VAT / IGI | EUR 20,000 (20%) | EUR 21,000 (21%) | EUR 4,500 (4.5%) |
| Registration tax | EUR 18,000 (malus, high band) | EUR 14,750 (IEDMT 14.75%) | None |
| Specialist fee | – | – | EUR 2,200 |
| Total taxes + fees | EUR 38,000 | EUR 35,750 | EUR 6,700 |
| Estimated net saving | EUR 31,300 vs France / EUR 29,050 vs Spain |
High-end (EUR 150,000 to EUR 250,000)
At EUR 200,000 before tax with 290 g/km CO2 (V8 GT):
| Item | France | Spain | Andorra |
|---|---|---|---|
| VAT / IGI | EUR 40,000 (20%) | EUR 42,000 (21%) | EUR 9,000 (4.5%) |
| Registration tax | EUR 55,000 (malus, top band) | EUR 29,500 (IEDMT 14.75%) | None |
| Specialist fee | – | – | EUR 2,500 |
| Total taxes + fees | EUR 95,000 | EUR 71,500 | EUR 11,500 |
| Estimated net saving | EUR 83,500 vs France / EUR 60,000 vs Spain |
Ultra-high-end (EUR 300,000+)
At EUR 400,000 (Porsche 911 GT2 RS, Lamborghini Revuelto, Bentley Continental GT Speed):
The malus ecologique in France and the IEDMT in Spain both reach their capped maximum levels. Andorran IGI remains at 4.5%. Estimated net saving: EUR 150,000 to EUR 250,000 depending on the exact vehicle and registration country.

Example Calculations by Brand
| Brand and Model | Vehicle value (EUR) | Saving vs France | Saving vs Spain |
|---|---|---|---|
| Porsche 992 Carrera S | 150,000 | ~EUR 47,000 | ~EUR 37,000 |
| BMW M5 Competition | 130,000 | ~EUR 38,000 | ~EUR 30,000 |
| Mercedes AMG GT 63 | 175,000 | ~EUR 58,000 | ~EUR 46,000 |
| Audi RS7 Sportback | 120,000 | ~EUR 34,000 | ~EUR 27,000 |
| Lamborghini Urus S | 230,000 | ~EUR 78,000 | ~EUR 62,000 |
| Ferrari Roma Spider | 280,000 | ~EUR 95,000 | ~EUR 75,000 |
| Range Rover SVR | 180,000 | ~EUR 61,000 | ~EUR 49,000 |
| Tesla Model S Plaid | 110,000 | ~EUR 10,500* | ~EUR 11,000* |
Electric vehicles benefit from a zero or near-zero malus in France and reduced or zero IEDMT in Spain — the saving from Andorra registration is therefore lower, driven primarily by the VAT / IGI differential.

Limits and Caveats
This simulation is indicative. Three key limitations to bear in mind:
- Eligibility for Andorra registration requires a compatible legal status (active or passive Andorran residency, or an Andorran company with genuine activity). The operation is not available to any EU resident who simply wishes to avoid taxes — see our risks and realities guide.
- The registration taxes applied in the calculator are approximations of 2026 rates. The actual malus or IEDMT depends on the exact vehicle, its homologated emissions and, in Spain, the autonomous community (some apply additional rates).
- If you bring the vehicle back to France or Spain permanently at a later date, VAT and registration tax will be recalculated at the time of re-registration, which may reduce the net saving. See importing your Andorran car to France or Spain.

What the Calculator Does Not Include
- Any local or regional surcharges beyond the national registration tax rates shown.
- Enclosed transport costs for supercars (EUR 2,500 to EUR 4,500).
- Re-registration costs in France or Spain if the vehicle returns permanently.
- Andorran residency entry costs (EUR 50,000 passive residency bond, or ~EUR 3,000 company formation).
The result shown corresponds to an estimated net saving, all else equal, at the point of purchase. To factor in Andorran entry costs and the cost of a potential future resale in France or Spain, request a personalised calculation via our comparison service or contact form.
